Sinatra's accompanist at the Sheraton and more!

Good morrow my fine fellows and how are you all?
Yes that's right, this Friday we have the wonderful Kenny Harkins who was Frank Sinatra's accompanist for 9 years in Las Vegas coming to play at the Sheraton. Kenny retired and lives near me (luckily) - we met at a gig where we were both hired by the band leader and a mutual admiration society was born! We also have the wonderful Roy King on drums and Bryan Thomas on bass so come and join us for what should be a swingin' affair!
I am,as you know, about to celebrate being sworn in and turning into an Anglo-American! I've been here six years now so I was thinking back as to what new experiences i've had over the last six years and what ones I’ve yet to have!
I've been to a baseball game, basketball game, learned to drive on the wrong side of the road. Learned to make a layered salad, eaten grits, dug snow from my drive-way, got stuck in a ditch (full of snow!) learned to bar b q, eaten more ribs than I ever thought possible, ridden a horse American style, driven across a state line, driven to Canada, driven for more than 8 hours without driving off the edge of the country!! I've made smores and melted marshmallows over a bonfire, been to Las Vegas and driven to the Grand Canyon, been to a winery (or 5!) and swam in a lake. I've seen the Amish and learned to swing-dance, I've driven to New York city, experienced sub zero temperatures, gone through a drive-through bank and drive through McDonalds. I've split wood, stacked wood and learned to light and keep a-light my wood burner! I've seen king-fishers, bald eagles, snakes, raccoons, ground-hogs, possums, chipmunks and far too many caterpillars!!
What I’ve yet to do......I've yet to go to a drive-in movie, I’ve yet to eat a hot dog....or a wiener for that matter!! I've yet to see the White House and go out West to ski, I've yet to see so many other beautiful places in this country, I've not eaten cotton candy or chitlins (whatever they are!) and I’ve yet to find something good on tv!, I've yet to learn how to cook a steak on a bar b q (haven't quite mastered that yet!) and go to a rib cook-off (sounds yummy!) and I’ve yet to do a drive-through shop(haven't quite had the courage!) I know there are sooooo many more things i've yet to do and I can't wait!
What I do know is that I’m looking forward to the next six years and wonder what experiences it will bring. The first six have been challenging, fulfilling and i'm truly very happy here (plus i have a wonderful hubby!) so I would like to thank you all because throughout the last six years I’ve had days when I really just wanted to get on a plane and go back to England. Very often it would be a day when I had to go out and sing. Those were the nights when it was really hard to get up there and smile but inevitably some of you would be there smiling right back at me and before I knew it, I’d be driving home having had a lovely evening because YOU all at some time or another have helped me get over that indescribable home-sickness. What would we do without our friends? I couldn't have done it without you all.
Hope to see you Friday or sometime soon!
Love
Helenx
