Humpty Helen fell down the stairs!!

Humpty Helen had no cares until
Humpty Helen fell down the stairs!!

Oh yes, Sunday morning and I was up early to drive to Columbus for my 'Divas' show. Luckily I was up really early as we had to load up my car with various things and Doug was up to to help me do that.
I put on my good solid boots and my ski jacket to go down the stairs to the basement and then outside. I put one foot on the stair and 'WOOSH'! my heal slid out from underneath me as if there was ice on the stair and down I went. I went down so hard I broke a stair with my back and proceeded to bump down all the rest to the bottom, yelling as I went! Luckily Doug was there to pick up the pieces and it took me about 10 minutes before I could speak and breath properly! After wiggling and checking various body parts I realised that legs, arms, hands e.t.c were intact but I had accute pain on the left side of my back. Doug cancelled all his Sunday plans, dropped everything and drove me to Columbus cause I knew I was in trouble. I swallowed some pain pills, got to the venue and by show time i was feeling pretty okay. I told the audience that i'd been to football practise and that I was a middle line-backer (whatever that is?!) and I'd taken a hard tackle.....'but you should see the other guy'. The show went really well, the audience were fabulous and we had an absolutely wonderful time. Doug was my roadie, food fetcher and dresser!! "See there are some perks to this job" I said cause I just couldn't get my own clothes on without help at that point!
However, by about 8pm I was not feeling so good and I knew someting wasn't right.

X-rays showed two cracked ribs, the doctor was worried i'd damaged my kidneys but all those pre-gig cocktails have done no harm it seems!!!
What many of you don't know (but my band do know) is that i've fallen down those very same stairs before! Oh yes, I fell so badly that I went through - that's THROUGH the dry wall at the bottom of the stairs!! As a warning to me to SLOW DOWN Doug left the hole there!! Whenever the guys come round to rehearse we have a little chuckle about the hole in the wall cause it looks like one of those Tom and Jerry cartoons with an outline of me in the wall. It was amazing that I didn't hurt myself that time but I didn't - i walked away with a few minor bruises!

I can safely say, sitting on my couch right now writing to you that I will NEVER rush down the stairs ever again! Doug has replaced the broken step, is going to paint the whole flight and put something non slip on each tread - after that he says he's considering putting in one of those electric chairs that attaches to the banister!

I SHALL be at The River this weekend and I will dose myself up for that as i'm looking forward to being back there again - I shall also be at Nighttown too. My Dad tells me that drinking water is absolutely useless in these kind of situations and that 'a good gin and tonic will bind my bones together!!' I love my Dad's docterly advise!!!
Look forward to seeing you this weekend - it will cheer me up immensely!
Hugs...but not too tight!
